COMMITTED TO EDUCATION

By offering high-quality, actively managed 529 education savings plans, the trust seeks to equip families with the tools and assets to pursue and attain their education goals. The trust partners with organizations focusing on early childhood education, early reading initiatives, financial literacy, and college and career outreach programs. The University of Alaska extends its commitment to the Education Trust of Alaska by offering plan participants resident tuition rates and a free application for admission to participants in all of its 529 plans.

What can we say? We love the University of Alaska system and so do our account holders and beneficiaries! Trust beneficiaries spend roughly $20 million each year at the University of Alaska system.

The trust's relationship with the University of Alaska allows for additional resources and connections for beneficiaries as they navigate their college experience. The University of Alaska's in-state tuition program generously extends to participants in the Education Trust of Alaska making UA an affordable option for exceptional quality. 

Alaska 529 account holders may choose to invest in the University of Alaska Portfolio and take advantage of the Tuition-Value Guarantee, which allows for the purchase UA tuition credits now for future use. This guarantee removes the uncertainty of predicting future tuition costs at UA. Should the beneficiary not attend the University of Alaska, the full account balance may be used at any eligible school.

Workforce Development

The trust is focused on addressing Alaska’s education and workforce development needs through employer/employee outreach, committee work, and financial wellness initiatives. A skilled workforce is crucial to a robust economy. The trust offers employers an additional tool to attract and retain qualified employees, an option to extend the use direct deposit as a tool to fund and build 529 accounts.

Local & National Impact

The trust partners with many Alaska non-profits and state agencies to encourage and promote access and attainment skills such as literacy, financial literacy, and career development. Current and past partners include the Alaska SeaLife Center, UAF School of Management's Arctic Innovation Competition, Fur Rondy, Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, Junior Achievement, Best Beginnings, The North Star Imagination Library, UA Museum of the North, UAF Summer Sessions, Spirit of Youth, Boys and Girls Clubs of Alaska, UAA and UAF athletic teams, various sports associations across the state, Chambers of Commerce, and the Alaska State Fair.

The trust sponsors numerous scholarships for Alaska youth. As of June 30, 2022, it had sponsored 594 scholarships for nearly $1.2 million. 

The trust's 529 plans are open to residents of any state.
